Red Currant + Violet Tonic
Red currants are so unusual...they are tart and filled with little edible seeds. They are so beautiful and delicate...The color of this cocktail is spectacular. The Liqueur de Violettes is sweet and fragrant. Shaken with some tonic water, this cocktail is pretty-pretty, bubbly, and delightful. Enjoy...For Each CocktailIngredients:2 tablespoons red currant syrup (recipe below)2 ounces Liqueur de Violettes6 ounces tonic waterHandful of iceDirections:Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a tumbler. Garnish with red currants. Cheers!Red Currant Syrup:Place 1/2 cup organic red currants, 1 cup filtered water, and 1/2 cup organic sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Once sugar dissolves, remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl. Pour into a ball jar. Store in the fridge for about 1 week. If you'd like, rather than discard the currants, you can make jam: Simply place the currants back in the saucepan with 3/4 cup filtered water and 1/2 cup organic sugar over low-medium heat. Allow to simmer for about 20 minutes until the mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat and allow to cool for about 1 hour. Store in a ball jar and use within a week...Photo + Recipe by Cassie Winslow
